Our trucks are serviced every 4 months or 25,000 km, and trailers every 6 months or 25,000 km, or earlier whenever possible. Vigilance by our drivers in their pre-trip, throughout the day, and post-trip inspections is another key to maintaining an excellent fleet. Mandatory training is supplied on a regular basis. Additional training is provided upon request, or when our Employee/Management Committee sees the need for it. Al's Cartage are active members of the Ontario Trucking Association's Safety Council, the Transportation Health & Safety Association of Ontario and the Canadian Trucking Human Resources Council. Our driver trainer is constantly being brought up-to-date on changes in legislation, which in turn is passed on to everyone else including drivers.
Here are some tips from the government when travelling through construction zones. "Approaching construction zones, start slowing early, be patient and heed warning signs and signal persons. Avoid lane changes and give yourself extra following space. Be prepared to stop." "Driving through construction zones, obey posted speeds and merge early when lanes are being funneled down to two or even one lane. Watch for workers and construction vehicles. Be prepared to stop!" "Exiting from construction zones, don't race to speed up. Compressed traffic will fan out into the new lanes so give yourself lots of space. Be prepared for what the other driver might do."
